Skill

From UnRuneScape Wiki

Skills are pointless actions that give you xp (if you're a good boy).

In RuneScape there are various skills, such as Summoning, Firemaking, Herblore and the long-awaited Bummoning.

Contents

[edit] Levels and rankings

All skills can be trained up to 99, or only 98 if it's a Thursday. If you're really sad though, you can keep training to 200M experience, but afterwards it is very likely you'll have carpal tunnel from all that repetitive clicking.

If you are between the 98th and 645th highest players in a skill, you will be featured on the hiscores for everyone to see.

[edit] Training locations

In-game, there are plenty of locations to train skills on. If you're very lucky, then you might only be surrounded by 15 macroers, all cutting away at those sorry excuses for trees.

Due to the increase in players, there is a constant need for more training spots. This will be combatted by Jagex with the release of four new trees for Lumbridge, which will soon be added to the game.

[edit] Quest requirements and rewards

Some quests require a certain level in a skill to do the quest, for example the exciting quest "Desert Pleasure" requires 84 Bummoning. Quests also reward experience in skills for completing them; "Desert Pleasure" provides 50k Bummoning xp, so everything works out fine and dandy.

Some quests, however, take away xp, for their own twisted pleasure (or at least, Jagex's). This also occurs when training. For more information on losing xp, see below.

[edit] Popular skills

Here is a list of popular skills:

  • Combat - the repetitive act of clicking on creatures and killing them.
  • Flax picking - this relatively new practice is undertaken by people who are often depressed and need to uproot plants for no apparent reason.
  • Herblore (aka Drug addiction) - allows the players to make "potions" (which are really drugs), that can "boost skill levels and assist the player" (get them high).
  • Bummoning - allows players to rape various animals such as goblins, dwarves and Vyrewatches.
  • Emoing - makes the player become more of an emo; for example, level 5 gets you your very own jet black eyeliner and a free Hawthorne Heights CD which can then be downloaded directly onto your iPod or mp3.

[edit] Not-so-popular skills

Now here is a list of skills that well and truly suck according to players:

  • Farming - no player has the patience or intelligence to monitor more than one crop at a time.
  • Construction - remembering to carry two different types of material is a bit too much for players.
  • Jagex worship - Nobody knows why this is considered unpopular. (cough)

[edit] Gaining and losing xp

When you cut a tree (no, not a wrist, emo kids), you will gain woodcutting xp. As you gain more xp you progress a level which allows you to do better things like cutting your own wood (ouch!), but to progress to higher levels logically requires more xp to be gained.

Sometimes, a Jagex mod will skip up to you and take some xp away from you, which made some players slightly annoyed1 when it was released. Losing xp is now considered normal and fun, with players often discussing it joyfully on the rant forums.

1 Totally pissed.
