The aftermath of the sound effects update was a long and drastic riot that lasted for 14 days (2 weeks) between Sunday the 13th of January, and Saturday the 26th of January.

[edit] The background of the riot

The riot started on Sunday, the 13th of January, in world 66 by angry players who did not like the fact that there was no new sound given for when bronze nails are dropped on the floor.

It was first noticed by a level 3 player (who remains anonymous) who was training up to 2 construction. Upon realising he needed extra room in his inventory, he dropped the single nail and it struck him that the sound was no different than how it sounded before. People around him noticed and quickly began foaming from the mouth, randomly biting each other out of anger.

[edit] The riot begins

Angered by this, he dashed to Falador and began to tell other players about this, all of whom were shocked and angered by the fact. Many tried it out for themselves and discovered the same thing as the level 3: the sound had not changed.

Many began to utter phrases such as "We pay to get brand new sound effects for bronze nails" and "Down with bronze nail haters!" in the middle of Falador. Some people even started chanting songs about freeing PruneScape from its evil holders.

[edit] Riot: Day 1

Towards the end of Sunday, over two hundred and three players had gathered in Falador, so a Jagex mod arrived and questioned the players as to what had caused this. When it was yelled explained to him the cause of the riots he stated that Jagex must have accidentally left it out. The players did not care and began to flame and use inappropriate language at the mod. Mod Hasmo was then forced to throw his shoes to the rioters in order to try to silence the rioters calm them down.

About an hour later, Jagex sent another mod to sort out the situation by stating a new bronze nail sound effect would be added within the next half hour. The mod also got the rioters to stop burning Mod Hasmo while he was tied to the flagpole in Falador Square. The rioters disbanded and people prepared for the update of the sound effect by buying bronze nails.

Half an hour later, there was still no update, so people began dropping their nails and proclaiming "Death to nail haters!!" repeatedly. By now, about forty more people had re-gathered, and had killed every guard in the Square out of frustration. The riots continued on into the night, when even Zezima joined, followed by his army of noobs.

[edit] Riot: Day 2

At 8:30am, a mass log out was planned for about ten minutes. Jagex had mistaken this for the riot ending, though some feared many had quit or cancelled their membership subscriptions.

At 8:40am, everyone logged back in, and drop parties began with people claiming they were quitting. At drop parties, up to 2M bronze nails were being dropped, and the people who were lucky enough to recieve the nails began to drop them all across RuneScape. A line of nails was soon created from the Shantay Pass through to Burthorpe (north-west of Falador).

A few hours later, the protesters had run out of nails, so they began running along this route shouting "We pay to get brand new sound effects for bronze nails!" all across the world.

At 2:00pm, over three hundred people had gathered in Falador, and the servers were beginning to lag badly. When another Jagex mod showed up, people began to drop bronze knives all across Falador, as players had run out of nails. Also at this time, the riot drastically increased in size and began to expand into Varrock and Port Sarim. After this expansion, there were around five hundred people rioting.

By 4:00pm, a new kind of dress code had begun, with people dressing in brown (to represent bronze) to show their support for the riot, and others began to wear green to support Jagex.

The riot remained much the same until 8:30pm, at which time the numbers reached 600 and Jagex had decided to take action. Jagex mods ran around Falador shouting out that they had every single sound effect in an attempt to distract people from rioting, but they were asked if they had a bronze nail sound effect; realising they'd been outsmarted, they ran to the Wilderness to insult ex-pkers.

[edit] Riot: Days 3 and 4

The center of the riot expanded into Port Sarim on the third day. By this time, people were exclaiming "Bronze haters!" instead of "Bronze nail haters!", becoming apparent people had forgotten what the protest was about. People also began sporting full bronze, which has begun to lead into a new revolution.

As the week progressed, people began to sport full bronze armour around Falador and Port Sarim, where the riot was still centralised. This new dress code started after an innocent level 5 was seen wearing full bronze, and other levels began to worship the noob, claiming "Bronze is best!" and "We love bronze!" and then a new chant arose: "Make bronze, not rune!". Higher levels (who craved attention) decided they wanted to be worshipped as well, and purchased full armour (even the boots and claws). Now that two level 70s were wearing bronze, others who were still not wearing bronze put it on, and as players who had nothing to do with the riot saw bronze wearers being worshipped, they bought it too.

[edit] The Bronze Revolution (Days 4 - 6)

After the night of January 16th, more than 30% of the players of RuneScape were sporting full bronze, with armour such as rune and dragon being dropped and then taken by scavenging noobs who usually fed on cabbages and other items of little to no use.

By January 17th the whole of RuneScape had gone parallel. Jagex tried to distract riots and problems with the release of Bummoning, but failed miserabely. Anyone level 30 or above was wearing bronze, and the noobs below now had a large amount of dragon, rune and adamant accessories. The player-made Bronze Kingdom covered the whole of Asgarnia as well as Barbarian Village, and anyone inside had to wear bronze, or be stripped naked and forced to wear it. The noobs stayed in Lumbridge, the mods stayed in Varrock, the necrophiliacs stayed in Morytania, the junkies stayed in the Wilderness and Karamja, and the few others stayed west of White Wolf Mountain. The high levels had regressed into noobs, now training on highwaymen and goblins.

On January 18th, one of the high levels found himself in Draynor Village, and witnessed one of the low levels dying after being attacked by an imp. It dropped a rune platebody, which the inquisitive high level player picked up. The high level found he could wear it, and decided to attack a black knight who was wandering around. The player found out that the rune was stronger than the bronze, and decided to tell his friends in Falador and Taverley of his discovery. Soon, everyone wanted the legendary "rune platebody". The only people who possessed them, though, were the low levels. This led to the economy flip.

[edit] The Economy Flip (Days 6 - 14) and the demise of the riot

On the night of January 18th, the high levels were paying millions for adamant, rune and dragon items to the lower-levelled players. By midnight, the low levels were insanely rich, with anyone under level 30 having at least 100M. The higher levels were all broke, and had to resort to picking flax.

On January 26th (over a week later), the riot still continued, and the low levels were now running the game with their riches, while the high levels were their humble servants. Suddenly, everyone turned their attention to Jagex's announcement of a fantastic new skill that would be coming out, so the game suddenly resorted to normal; people rioted and flamed Jagex as well as "noobs". The low levels traded all the money back and fled to Lumbridge, thus signalling the end of the two week-long riot.

[edit] Forum spamming during the riot

The reactions on the forums were the worst since the Tea Sipping Revolution, with the entire rant forum flooded with complaints on the situation at one point.

At about 5:15pm on Sunday, the forums officially shut down for about two hours. When they re-opened, they were greeted with the same sheer number of complaints.
